Figuring out the trajectory of the ball is difficult for young kids.  They tend to run toward the ball where it is now, as oposed to where it WILL be by the time they get there.  Try kicking the ball toward your child at an angle so that he gets used to intersecting the moving ball.

The first few weeks, we will be focusing on Control of the ball.  We suggest practicing moving the ball across the yard using the Instep.  The instep provides control and accuracy, which we need to get comfortable with before we move on to the power shots.

If you have two Soccer Balls, you can have races with your child, and after a few rounds, let him try to steal the ball from you for fun.
