Game 1 Recap:  Exciting and well-played game by both teams.   End-to-end action with both teams creating several good scoring chances.  Solid goalkeeping by Caroline, Sarah, and Taylor.  Tremendous break-away strike from 15ft straight out in front by Kim to open up the scoring in the first quarter.  Kim adds another pretty goal in the second quarter.  Jawbreakers net balls in the first and second quarters, and then add a goal late in the fourth to steal the win.
Final Score:  Gobstoppers 2, Jawbreakers 3
Game Ball:    Justine (consistant play in the back, anchoring the defense against an extremely potent offense)

Game 2 Recap:  Gobstoppers again open up the scoring early in the 1st quarter.  Taylor sends a blast from the right side of the box that beats the Pirate keeper for a 1-0 lead.  In the 2nd quarter, Kim springs loose on a breakaway down the left flank, cuts to the middle and finds the back of the net on a searing low drive.  In the 3rd quarter, the defense has trouble clearing a loose ball in front of the Gobstopper goal, and the Pirates are able to slip it into the goal despite a nice save attempt by Sarah C.  A 4th quarter handball in the box sends the Gobstoppers to the spot for a PK.  Tension builds on the field as Kim calmly walks up and knocks the ball into the left side netting off the outstretched hands of the Pirate goalkeeper for her 4th goal of the season.  Another solid performance by the defense and several nice saves by Gobstopper goalkeepers seals the victory for the purple.
Final Score:  Gobstoppers 3, Pirates 1
Game Ball:    Taylor (dazzling play at both ends of the field)

Game 3 Recap:  On a sweltering Southern California afternoon, the Gobstoppers and Martians play to a 1-1 draw.  A tough, hard-fought, but somewhat loose game was played by both teams.  Gobstopper scoring chances came fast and furious in the first half, with Taylor firing a blast that clanked off the crossbar, and Rachael getting off a strong drive at point blank range that was snatched up by the Martian keeper.  The game remained scoreless through 3 quarters.  In the 4th, the Martians strike on a nice shot into the upper right corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead.  With only minutes left in the game, and hardly anything left in the tanks, the Gobstopper attack don't give up on a ball deep in the left corner of the field.  Taylor sends a beautiful cross to Kim, who buries a blistering shot into the lower left netting for the equalizer, and the Gobstoppers settle for taking a share of the points.
Final Score:  Gobstoppers 1, Macho Martians 1
Game Ball:     Gabby (tough, menacing defense)

Game 4 Recap:  Best game of the season so far.  Gobstoppers and Jawbreakers play another wide open, end-to-end, well played game that ends in a well earned draw for both teams.  Solid defense holds the game scoreless in the 1st quarter.  Gobstoppers strike first on a well played ball by Chandler into the box that Sophia finishes off for her first goal of the season.  Jawbreakers even up the score on a close range shot just out of Caroline’s reach.  Gobstoppers jump out 2-1 on Kim’s long range blast from just inside the box that beats the Jawbreaker keeper to the far post.  Jawbreakers again even it up on a Kristen C. missile that finds the back of the Gobstopper net.  The 3rd quarter opens up with the Jawbreaker right forward breaking free down the line and firing a shot that sneaks in near post and the Jawbreakers jump out to their first lead of the game.  Minutes later, the Gobstoppers bounce back as Kim buries another long range shot from just inside the box into the back of the Jawbreaker net.  The nerve-racking 4th quarter was splattered with great scoring chances for both teams.  Great all-around play from both teams kept the quarter scoreless.

Final Score:  Gobstoppers 3,  Jawbreakers 3

Game Ball:     The Whole Team (awe-inspiring effort and play by everyone)

Game 5 Recap:  With a short-sided 9-v-9 game, the Gobstoppers have their work cut out for them, missing key players for today’s lineup. Plenty of good scoring chances in the 1st quarter, as the Gobstopper offense jumps all over the Eraser defense early, but the Erasers do well to keep the Gobstoppers off the scoreboard.  Gobstoppers continue to control the midfield and create opportunities in the 2nd quarter, but the Erasers open up first with 2 quick solo strikes from Nicole K.  Gobstoppers get one back just before halftime, as Sophia blasts her 2nd goal of the season into the lower right corner from  about 12 yards straight out in front off a nice cross from Kim.  With no subs, the Gobstopper tanks begin to run low.  The Erasers take advantage and add the insurance goal late in the 3rd.  Gobstoppers tired legs grit it out in the 4th as the defense stays solid and the offense is able to still create good scoring chances but cannot capitalize.  A well played game with a great effort by everyone.
Final Score:    Gobstoppers 1,  Erasers 3
Game Ball:       Sophia (provided firepower for a thinned attack, and stepped in goal late to help keep the Erasers off the board in the 4th)

Game 6 recap:

This week’s early morning start gives the Gobstoppers trouble as the team can’t get out of the gate, and play the first half in a daze.  The Baboons playing inspired soccer to start the game, take advantage and jump out in front on a drive right down the middle of the Gobstopper defense early in the 2nd quarter.  Gobstoppers catch some breaks and survive the half, only down 0-1 going into halftime.  Looking for a spark to break the daze coming out of halftime, the Gobstoppers get it from Sarah C.  From just outside the right corner of the box, Sarah lofts a long range shot over the keeper’s head and tucks it just under the crossbar for her 1st goal of the season.  Just what the Gobstoppers needed, the team comes to life, and begin to pressure the Baboon defense.  The Gobstoppers spend most of the 4th quarter buzzing around the Baboon goal, but good shot blocking defense and a little bad luck, keep the Gobstoppers out of the net.  The game ends in a 1-1 draw, as the Gobstoppers settle yet again to share the points.

Final Score:   Gobstoppers 1,  Blue Baboons 1

Game Ball:      Sarah C.  (supplied the desperately needed spark to fire up the team)

Game 7 Recap:

On a cool, misty, October afternoon, the Gobstoppers again are content to be spectators for the first half of the game.  But this time they don’t get lucky either, and the Bolts light ‘em up for 4 goals before halftime.  But true to form though, the big deficit does not hinder the Gobs from coming to life in the second half.  The Gobs come storming out of halftime and right away start pressuring the Bolts tough defense and shutting down the Bolts speedy offense.  Midway through the 3rd, Kim breaks the ice and sends a long range blast from the right side of the box that bangs the far post and bounces in, and the Gobs are on the board.  A few minutes later, Kim strikes again, as a nice cross from Taylor finds Kim unmarked in front of the net.  Kim takes the cross and lifts it up over the keeper for her 2nd goal of the game.  The Bolts get one back on a quick counter attack as the Gobs push forward to pressure the Bolts side of the field.  Midway through the 4th, Kim completes her hat trick, as she blasts a loose ball in the box into the lower right corner for her 10th goal of the season.  The Gobs again spend the last few minutes of the game buzzing around the Bolt goal, but are just unable to pull the trigger and put the ball into the net.  Gobs dominate the 2nd half with nice all around team play, but need the wake up call at the beginning of the game instead of at halftime.

Final Score:   Gobstoppers 3,  Lightning Bolts 5

Game Ball:      Kim (HAT TRICK!!! and solid controlling play in the midfield)

Game 8 Recap:  No recap available (re-capper missed the game)

Final Score:  Gobstoppers 0,  Purple Pirates 0

Game 9 Recap:
Nice team play and persistent attacking defensive pressure prove to be too much for the Tamales, as the Gobs put on a dominating performance start to finish.  Taylor starts the scoring early in the 1st on a “bang-bang” pass play from Leslie to Kim to Taylor, as the ball finds an unmarked Taylor on the right side of the box and she crushes a shot into the upper near post netting.  Later in the 1st, Chandler springs Kim loose on a breakaway and she slides it past the keeper for a two goal lead.  The Gobs fall asleep right before halftime, and do not clear a deep ball in the box, the Tamales take advantage and knock it into the upper left corner to cut the lead in half.  The Gobs get the intensity back coming out of halftime, as Chandler again sends a thru ball that springs Kim loose right up the middle and she finishes it off for her 2nd goal of the game.  Midway thru the 4th, the Gobs put it away as Chandler and Kim hook up again, as Kim completes her 2nd hat trick of the season.  Great team passing, ball control, and aggressiveness keeps the ball in the Tamales end most of the 2nd half.
Final Score:  Gobstoppers 4,  Killer Tamales 1
Game Ball:     Chandler (Great passing and ball control in the middle of the field)

Game 10 Recap:

The Gobs and Martians face off in a preview of round 1 of the playoffs.  A well-played game by both teams, the Gobs strike first as Kim receives a nice feed from Sarah C. right in front of the Martian goal and goes top shelf with a blast that the Martian keeper never had a chance at.  Kim strikes again as she springs free on a break-away and finishes by burying a shot into the lower far-post netting.  Gobs dominate the 1st half, but give up a break-away goal to the Martian center forward just as the halftime whistle blows.  An exciting 3rd quarter produces several good scoring chances for both teams, but with the help of tough goalkeeping, neither team is able to put one on the board.  Early in the 4th, the Gobs again fall victim to a quick break-away goal by the speedy Martian center forward.  But the Gobs answer right back as Leslie takes a nice thru ball from Kim all the way down the left wing and sneaks a tough angle shot off the keepers leg and just inside the near post for what turns out to be the game winner.  The teams match up well, and it should be a close and exciting round 1 playoff game.

Final Score:  Gobstopper 3,  Macho Martians 2

Game Ball:     Leslie (great ball control and speed at the left forward position)
