Welcome To Pony Baseball Peninsula Pony – Colt League was founded over 25 years ago and for most of the youth involved, it is the transition between Little League and High School Baseball. Just as Pony Baseball was started in 1951 in Pennsylvania as a transition league for 13 and 14-year olds to go from the Little League size diamond to the regulation size diamond. Rather than going from 60 foot base paths to 90 foot base paths and going from a 46 foot distance from the pitchers mound to home plate to 60 feet, Pony distances better accommodate the physical capabilities of the participants required by the game at this age level. 80 foot base paths and a distance of 54 feet from the pitching rubber to home plate allows for a more natural development of the players than competing programs. PONY is taken from the first letters of each word in the slogan “Protect Our Nations Youth”. Pony Baseball recognizes the purpose of sport is a challenge to develop one’s individual skills with the need to blend individual performance with team goals. Good sportsmanship is most important and while victory is the goal of competition, the competition is more important than the final score. Each season we field between 7 and 10 teams of local youth in our program. We are pleased to announce that we are now able to welcome players from Lomita, Harbor City and those residing in the TAB boundaries of Torrance. All games are played on our two local fields, George Allen in Palos Verdes Estates and Ernie Howlett in Rolling Hills Estates. All youth in the 13 and 14-year old age bracket and 15 year olds in the 8th Grade are encouraged to register and play in our league. For many of our players, this is their final opportunity to refine their skills one last time as they prepare for entry into the High School programs next season. Our league follows and plays by the "Official Rules of Pony League Baseball". Please come out and enjoy a game with us.
