U12 Winter Soccer Guidelines

1. Location. U12 games will be at Silver Spur.

2. Referees. The Home Team is responsible for supplying a referee for the game. The Home Team is the first team listed in the time slot (i.e. Home v Visitor). If there is a referee volunteer from the visiting team, that is ok too. Coaches can referee the games if they wish.

3. Game length. Each game consists of four quarters of 12 ˝ minutes in length. A five minute break between quarters and a 7-10 minute half time break is reasonable for each game.

4. Game Start. Please start your games promptly so as to not disrupt the day’s schedule.

5. Set-Up. Both teams listed for the first game of the day are responsible for setting up the fields for the day. This includes having the goals and nets set, lines painted and corner flags posted 10 minutes prior to the start of the first match.

6. Number of players. U12 games will be 8 field players plus a goalie. If there is room on the field and both coaches agree, field players can be increased to 9 (this maximizes the child’s time in the game.

7. Substitutions. Please rotate your subs every game. Every child must play at least 3 quarters in each game. Make your substitutions at the quarter and half breaks, unless an injury requires you to substitute a player during a quarter.

8. General rules – Referees. Safety is comes first. Rough play will not be allowed. Penalty kicks in the box are allowed for U12. Drop balls are not allowed (in the event one is needed, have one of teams take a throw in near the mid-field line). In the event of a bad throw-in, the other team takes the throw in. We do play off-sides officially in U12.
